Are you interested in training to become a secondary school teacher?

Our school is part of a growing number of schools leading the way for more school-led teacher training. This is really important to us because it means we can choose the very best talent and develop them into teachers. Being able to choose who we train as teachers helps us in delivering the best outcomes for the students at Becket Keys Church of England School.

We are looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, have a passion for teaching and want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential. Please contact us if you would like to hear about the teacher training opportunities available. We can also provide you with support and guidance on your application form and offer you school experience if you just want a taster of what teaching could be like.

Applications are made via the DfE website and the school works in partnership with BEC Teacher Training.

For further information on what becoming a teacher might involve please visit the BEC Teacher Training website: www.billericayscitt.com or ring the secondary team on: 01268 477611 ext. 476 and ask for Becky or email becky@billericayscitt.com

Alternatively, please contact Mrs. Sharp (Initial Teacher Training (ITT) co-ordinator) for an informal chat about training to become a teacher. Call 01277 286600 or contact her via the Contacts Page.

Are you a teacher returning to work after a career break?

If you are a teacher who has had a career break and you are interested in gaining some experience to get back into the classroom, we can also help with this! Contact Mrs. Sharp for details: 01277 286600 or via our Contacts Page.

In common with other RET sponsored schools and academies, staff are employed under the nationally agreed pay and conditions for teachers and school support staff including pension schemes.

We are completely committed to safeguarding the welfare of our students. Those who work for us are expected to share this commitment, which will be fully tested as part of the selection process. Our policies, procedures and practices reflect our commitment to equality and diversity. Individuals will be selected for appointment based purely on their suitability for the post.

Are you currently studying a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Degree?

If you are in your penultimate year of a STEM related degree, you may be interested to know that we have Mathematics and Physics internship places available. Internships will take place during June and July each year and last four weeks. You’ll be paid £300 per week for undertaking the programme.

You will get the opportunity to experience a great range of activities to help you get a feel of what life as a teacher is really like, as well as having your own mentor. We have designed a programme including:

  • classroom experience, which will involve assisting with lessons and providing subject support to students;
  • shadowing experienced teachers and observing lessons, followed by jointly planning and delivering lessons;
  • one-to-one guidance from outstanding classroom teachers;
  • joining weekly subject sessions with our current trainees to improve your subject knowledge and having discussions on research and pedagogy;
  • Weekly meetings with your mentor to discuss skills such as effective questioning and behaviour management;
  • Collecting evidence towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards

After four weeks, you will certainly know if teaching is for you – if so, we can then help you with your UCAS application and support you with the skills tests and plan for future visits to the school.
